Privacy

The short version

This site is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics, and carries no advertising or tracking scripts. Nothing about you reaches us until you choose to send it — by filling in the enquiry form, writing to us, or signing up for something we run.

We use what you send to answer you and to run our programmes. We do not sell it, and we do not pass it to anyone who is not helping us deliver the thing you asked for.

What we collect

Only what you give us, plus the ordinary record any web server keeps of a request.

• The enquiry form: your name, email address, and the topic and message you write. Your mobile number and suburb if you fill those in.
• Anything you write to us directly — an email, a message on one of our social channels, a note on a sign-in sheet at an event.
• Your email address, if you ask to hear about what is coming up.
• Standard server logs kept by whoever hosts this site: the page requested, the time, your IP address and your browser's user agent. We use them to keep the site up and to see roughly how busy it is, not to build a picture of you.

Why we hold it

To reply to you. To organise the workshop, consultation or event you asked about. To tell you when something you registered for changes. To meet the record-keeping obligations that come with running programmes and receiving funding.

We do not use your details for anything else without asking you first.

Cookies, analytics and embedded video

This site sets no cookies and includes no analytics or advertising code.

Videos on the site load only after you press play. Until you do, nothing is requested from the video host. When you do, the video is embedded from youtube-nocookie.com, and from that point YouTube receives the request and applies its own privacy terms.

Who else handles your details

A small number of services, each doing one job:

• Web3Forms delivers the enquiry form to our inbox. What you typed passes through their service on the way to us.
• Our hosting provider serves the pages and keeps the server logs described above.
• Meetup, Eventbrite, LinkedIn and Buy Me a Coffee run on their own systems under their own privacy policies. Following one of our links to them puts you on their site, not ours, and what you do there is between you and them.

Photographs and video at our events

We photograph and film what we run, and we publish some of it on this site and on our social channels. If you would rather not appear, tell whoever is running the session and we will keep you out of frame. If something is already published and you want it taken down, ask us and we will remove it.

How long we keep it

Enquiries stay in our inbox while we are dealing with them and for as long afterwards as we need the context. Programme records are kept while the programme runs and for the period our funding and reporting obligations require. Server logs are short-lived and rotate out.

When we no longer need something, we delete it.

Getting a copy, correcting it, or having it deleted

Ask us and we will tell you what we hold about you, fix anything that is wrong, or delete it. There is no charge for this and you do not need a reason. Use the enquiry form and say what you would like us to do.

Keeping it safe

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. Access is limited to the people running the relevant programme, and we keep as little as the job needs — the shortest record is the safest one.

No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed secure. If something does go wrong in a way that could seriously harm you, we will tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changes to this policy

When this changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. If a change affects how we use something you have already given us, we will say so rather than quietly amending the page.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can take the complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
